If you can’t tell by this text-heavy website, I have a lot to say. And I hope all of my words point us in a direction of K I N(dness) L O V (e) and G R A (titude). But, I wasn’t always this outspoken. In fact, I was the type of person who preferred to be a fly-on-the-wall because I was too scared of what people might think of me. Too scared to show my seams.
That all changed on April 24th, 2015 — the day I embarked on a 2660-mile hike from Mexico to Canada to help a paralyzed stranger achieve his dream of walking again. During the six month adventure, I used the philanthropic hike as a platform to spread this simple message: “Be kind to yourself, Be kind to one another.”
The outpour of kindness that I received in response was something I had never experienced before. Complete strangers opened up their homes to me. Complete strangers reached out to me on social media asking how they could help. Complete strangers wrote me stories about the changes they made in their own lives because of this simple message. After bearing witness to so many overwhelming acts of kindness, I realized that kindness was much more than just a “fluffy whimsical feeling”. It is a very real energy. And, it can change human behavior.
Ever since that hike, I’ve dedicated my life to being both a kindness activist and kindness scientist — Finding new ways to integrate this life-changing element into every molecule of our society is the reason I started K I N L O V G R A. Because now I know what K I N (dness) L O V (e) and G R A (titude) can do. And I hope, together, we can spread this very real energy and change human behavior around the world.
